JUAN MANUEL PASTOR: FRAGMENTED ARCHITECTURES.

This exhibition presents a series of architectural elements from Palma, focusing on certain details of distinctive buildings, fragmented and without any documentary intent or strictly architectural criteria. It simply aims to reflect, with a somewhat unacademic brushstroke, a small sample of this ancient and wonderful city, whose buildings reflect different cultures and influences – from the Arab heritage, the significant Jewish presence, to the Christian civilization.

This series of works is the result of my passion for architecture, stemming from my youth studies, combined with my love for the city of Palma, its old town, its medieval buildings and streets, the different cultures and architectural styles, all on an abstract aesthetic foundation. This, combined with a blurred pictorial treatment, represents a modern and contemporary vision that reflects my own artistic evolution from realistic and architectural criteria to this fresher, more contemporary concept in line with current times.

I would like to point out that I was born in Valencia, spent my youth in Zaragoza, studied in Barcelona, and finally – thirty years ago – arrived in Mallorca. In other words, I have experienced the four territories of the Crown of Aragon, which has had an aesthetic significance for me.

This series of architectural views of Palma is my humble tribute to the city, with which I feel fully identified for personal, artistic, and emotional reasons.
